Setting Notice Period for Leave Types

A 'notice period' limit defines how far in advance employees must apply for a leave type. Setting a notice period helps teams plan better and ensures leave requests follow company policies.

Access Requirement: Only employees with HR Admin access can update leave type settings.

Main Menu → Settings → Leaves → Leave Types

What Employees Experience After This Is Set

Employees must apply for such leave types before the set minimum notice period.

If the leave request does not meet the notice period requirement, it cannot be submitted.

This configuration needs to be disabled to submit the leave type

Leave requests that meet the notice period rule can be submitted normally for approval.

Validation and Error Message Behavior

  1. If an employee tries to apply for leave without meeting the required notice period:

  2. Yomly blocks the leave request from being submitted.

  3. An error message is displayed, informing the employee that the request does not meet the required notice period.

  4. Error message: 'Minimum notice period not given. Your request must be at least 5 days in the future.'

  5. The employee must select dates that comply with the notice period to continue.

Important Notes

This setting applies only to the selected leave type.

The notice period is calculated based on the leave start date.

Ensure the leave type is assigned to a Leave Group so employees can see and apply for the leave correctly.

Best Practices

Set longer notice periods for planned leave types such as Annual Leave.

Allow shorter or no notice periods for unplanned leave types such as Sick Leave.

Clearly communicate notice period requirements to employees.
