In Payroll, you can use General Ledger (GL) codes as part of your finance and accounting processes.
Companies can use a general ledger to record different types of accounts in their financial system, such as assets, liabilities, revenue, and more.
A GL code is a unique shorthand or numeric code assigned to each account.
Among other purposes, an organization can use GL codes to track recurring expenses and help their accountants understand where they are spending money.
As a payroll or platform admin, you can create GL codes. Do the following:
-
In the sidebar, in the Business section, click Settings.
-
Go to Payroll > General ledger codes.
This page lists all available GL codes.
-
Click + Add general ledger code.
-
Enter the following details:
-
Enter a Name for the GL code.
-
Enter the General ledger code.
-
Enter a Description to document what the GL code needs to be used for.
-
-
Click Save general ledger code.
