Overview
Yomly now reads your receipts for you. When an employee uploads a bill or receipt to an expense claim, AI reads it and fills in the date, description, currency, amount and VAT. The employee checks the details, corrects anything if needed, and submits.
Receipt scanning now works on both the web portal and the mobile app, and accepts PDF files as well as photos.
How Receipt Scanning Helps
1. Less typing
Employees no longer copy figures from a receipt into the form. Upload the receipt and the key details are filled in within seconds.
2. More accurate details
The newAI reads receipts far more reliably, including the vendor, VAT and total. Fewer typing mistakes means fewer claims sent back for correction.
3. Works on web and mobile
Receipt scanning is now available on the web portal for the first time, so employees get the same experience wherever they submit expenses.
4. More file types
Employees can upload receipts as PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC or HEIF. PDF receipts, such as e receipts and invoices received by email, are now read as well as photos.
5. The employee stays in control
Nothing is submitted automatically. Employees review every detail before saving, and any field they change is marked "Entered by you".
Availability
Receipt scanning is being switched on for all businesses by 15 November 2026.

How to Use It
Step 1: Upload the receipt
Open a new expense item. Under Bill or receipt, click Browse files or drag your receipt into the box. You can upload a PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC or HEIF file of up to 5 MB.
Step 2: Let AI fill in the details
Once the receipt has been uploaded, AI reads it and fills in the expense details. A message confirms Details extracted. Please review below. Your receipt stays on the left so you can compare it with the details on the right.
Step 3: Check and edit the details
Check each field against your receipt. If anything is missing or wrong, change it. Any field you change is marked Entered by you, so approvers can see which details came from the receipt and which you entered. Select the Type of expense, then save.
Step 4: Prefer to type it yourself?
If you prefer to enter the information by yourself, click Enter Manually and fill in the details yourself. Your receipt is still attached to the claim.
Tip: if the receipt is blurred, cropped or very faint, some details may not be read. Upload a clearer copy using Replace, or enter the details yourself.
Your Data
Receipts are read using Google Gemini, which Yomly has on boarded as a subprocessor. Receipts are used only to fill in the expense form. Receipts and expense claims continue to be stored in Yomly under your existing agreement with us.
